Treating BPH using the REZŪM method

The cutting-edge REZŪM treatment method uses the natural energy of water vapour to relieve symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

In one application, water vapour penetrates the confined space of the prostatic tissue over the course of nine seconds. It then condenses on the cells and changes back to the liquid state. The released energy is so strong that it kills the affected cells. Over time, the body removes these dead cells quite naturally – by healing. So, the prostate shrinks and the pressure on the urethra decreases, leading symptoms of BPH to subside.

This state-of-the-art technology is suitable for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement from 30ml to 80ml (although patients with prostates twice the size have successfully been treated) in men over the age of 50. Unlike conventional endoscopic surgery, laser surgery or radiofrequency ablation, REZŪM does not require hospitalisation, i.e. no need for a longer hospital stay. The procedure is very short (it takes a few minutes) and is performed under local anaesthesia. Recovery is also much quicker than in standard methods.

The beginnings of the new technology were monitored by Dr. Pacík since 2012, when he collaborated on the development with his American colleagues. He stood at the birth of this new technology, which has completed clinical studies (where he acted as the lead researcher) in North America and Europe, and has gained the necessary regulatory approval in the Czech Republic. Until 31 July 2020, the procedure was carried out at the University Hospital Brno. Since that time, these services have been definitively terminated at this location, and since September 2020, the technology has been installed at the SURGAL CLINIC private hospital.
